Get a driving license on motorcycle (class A)

Do you dream of taking the plunge towards a motorcycle drivers license? At T. Solbakken you can get a driving license in class A - efficiently, safely and flexibly.

At T. Solbakken you will meet dedicated and professional teachers with long experience. Several of them ride motorcycles full time, and know what it takes to create mastery and motivation. Whether you want a lighter means of transportation in everyday life or a new hobby, our teachers make sure to give you a close and effective training.

By taking the motorcycle driver’s license, we promise that you will become part of a fantastic community on two wheels. As a motorcyclist, you will experience excitement, joy and mastery, but also many great rides both alone and with others.

Theoretical motorcycle course

Before you start with driving lessons in class A, A2 and A1 , you must complete a mandatory motorcycle course of 3 hours. The purpose of the theoretical motorcycle course is for you to gain insight to what it means to ride a motorcycle, and at the same time get an overview of the training you must go through before you can drive-up.

One of the topics in the course is, among other things, to get acquainted with the characteristics of the motorcycle environment and the motorcycle culture. Another topic is to discuss and reflect on the risk of motorcycling.

The most important thing however, is that you have taken the first step into a fantastic world on two wheels!

Before you can take driving lessons or practice driving, you must take a basic traffic course. The course is mandatory for anyone under the age of 25 who is applying for a driver's license for the first time. The course is held over 17 hours spread over 5 course evenings.

Extension of your motorcycle driver's license

Age limit for class A is 20 years when you already have been driving for 2 years or more with class A2. You must have completed a 7-hour mandatory safety course at the driving school. The course can be started at the earliest when you have a one-year driving license in class A2.

Are you over 24 years old? Then you can skip class A2 and go straight to class A.

You only need to take the theoretical test once. If you want to expand your license to a larger class, a practical driving test may need to be retaken.

When expanding from class A2 to class A, you must complete a 7-hour mandatory safety course at the driving school. If you have been driving for 2 years and are expanding from A2 to A, no new driving test is needed.

Extension from A1 to A2

Extension from A1 to A2 is provided that you have had a drivers license on A1 for at least 2 years. If you are going to expand from class A1 to A2, you must complete:

Step assessment step 3: NOK 875,-

Safety course on track: NOK 5500,-

Safety course on road from class A2: NOK 5500,-

If you have had a driver's license on class A1 for less than 2 years, and you are over 18 years old, you can also expand to A2, but then you must take a practical driving test as well. The price of the practical driving test is: NOK 2500, -

Extension from driving license class A2 to A

If you have completed your driver's license on class A2, you can extend the driver's license to A if you have had the license on A2 for at least 2 years. For example: if you took the license on A2 when you were 18 years old, you can expand to A when you are 20 years old. To be able to extend the driver's license from A2 to A, you must take a course at a driving school. The course is 7 hours, and you do not need to drive up. If you take A2 when you are 23 years old, you can expand to A when you are 24 years old. You must then have the same course of 7 hours at a driving school, but because you have only had the license for one year, you must also take a practical driving test.
